Gilbert Albert, a Swiss Design History of Over 60 Years

Gilbert Albert was born in Geneva, in 1930. From a very young age, his father taught him to love and appreciate the beauty of the natural world; all this contributed to the creativeness in his work, in later life. He went on to study jewelry at the School of Industrial Arts when he was 15 years old.

In 1945, his artisan skill acquired the attention of a renowned luxury watchmaking company in Switzerland, Patek Philippe. He ended up working for the firm as a manager and designer for a period of 7 years. Later, he moved on to work for the Omega house. Eventually, in 1962, he established his own business and then repeatedly won the DeBeers Diamonds International Awards; an extraordinary total of 10 times, two for Omega, three for Patek Philippe, and five for his own name, Gilbert Albert.

Gilbert Albert’s exceptional jewelry

Gilbert Albert was blessed with creative talent and devised new crafting techniques using original materials, such as fossils, fur, dinosaur bones, shells, meteorites, beetles, and more. The outstanding jeweler stated that “In the enchanted world of jewelry, every piece must be original in its execution.”

He introduced the use of meteorites in fine jewelry and was highly skilled in contrasting the roughly hued nature of raw materials with heavily textured gold and, sometimes, a traditional adornment of rubies or diamonds. Apart from being an art jeweler, Gilbert Albert is also a painter and a sculptor, but most of all he has a strong admiration for nature. This great love for nature is clearly depicted in his magnificent jewelry creations; each of his jewelry pieces has an exclusive design depicting various aspects of fauna and flora.

His work has been on public display in various parts of the world, from Paris and New York to as far as Dubai and Johannesburg. In addition, he received an invitation to exhibit his creations at the Kremlin in Moscow.

His wondrous creations consist of necklaces made in yellow gold and decorated with tourmaline or diamonds, leather necklaces with tattoo designs, Eygptian scarab pendant, bracelets created out of flat polished stones, and lots of other jewelry designs. Gilbert Albert ornaments are truly mesmerizing.
