JAR,The Revealing of a Hidden Jeweler

The history of the three initials of this remarkable jewelry brand, JAR, goes back to the year 1978, when the American jeweler, Joel Arthur Rosenthal (JAR), established his business. He previously worked as a salesman for the famous Bulgari house. Rosenthal had never had the opportunity to study gemology or anything else connected with jewelry concepts. Nonetheless, his own strong personal interest in jewelry earned him a place within the glittering jewelry world.

Rosenthal never intended for his company to acquire publicity; the company didn’t favor advertisements, photos or even directions to its location. The shop’s windows at 7 Place Vendôme, close to the Ritz Hotel, display no jewelry collections and the brand’s website lacks information as well. Rosenthal does not see the need for advertising his jewelry, he rarely exhibits them, makes his own selection of potential customers, and is said to produce a limited amount of jewelry pieces from his shops in Switzerland and France. This mysterious style has aroused interest amongst numerous clients and collectors; keenly awaiting any JAR signed jewelry to make an appearance at an auction. It’s no wonder the jeweler is known as the “Fabergé of our times”.

JAR holds the firm conviction: “Why try to acquire customers when they themselves come to you?” He designs exclusive antique jewelry for superstars and the elite rich class. Amongst his hundreds of fans are well-known celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, and others. At every auction sale of jewelry collections by JAR, the prices soar from double, triple to as much as five times the estimated actual price of the jewelry. In 2013, the brand achieved an overall revenue of around 21 million euros.

The leader in contrasting and pavé setting

Mesmerized by the sight of vintage jewelry pieces and precious stones, JAR ensures that every single one of his creations is irresistible; focusing on pavé setting giving the appearance of a diamond paving. His craftsmanship has gained inspiration from fauna and flora. His wondrous creations are inclusive of a pin made in the form of lilac petals, earrings shaped like tulips, and a ring resembling a diamond braid; a truly magnificent range of jewelry collections.
