Ulysse Nardin, Mastermind Watchmakers for Over 170 years

Ulysse Nardin’s story starts with his gaining expertise in the art of watchmaking and proceeding to establish his company in Le Locle, Switzerland, in 1846. Nardin had a sound vision of the future. Despite not living close to the sea, he had a strong conviction regarding the increasing need for marine and pocket chronometers. A need that Nardin fully believed in being able to meet.

Initially, he was involved with the designing of high accuracy marine chronometers. These were, at first, exported to the United States but were quick in acquiring worldwide recognition. Despite being a new company, it succeeded in being awarded a medal, linked with complicated watches and pocket chronometers, at the International Exhibition held in London. In 1876, following the demise of Ulysse Nardin, his son Paul-David Nardin began to manage the business.

The brand’s value increases

Ulysse Nardin watches deserve to be considered luxury watches. By the 1870s, more than 50 navies and other shipping companies worldwide possessed the brand’s marine deck chronometers; providing the necessary instruments required for precision and efficiency in various occupations internationally. Over time, the maintenance of their exclusive features has continued; winning the brand its first gold medal in 1893. The medal was awarded for the presentation of the brand’s outstanding chronometer at the Universal Exhibition in Chicago. Eventually, Ulysse Nardin was considered highly deserving of the attention of navies worldwide, inclusive of Russia and Japan.

But this did not mark the end of the brand’s pursuit for technological advancements. Ulysses Nardin went on to manufacture watches having a smaller movement, such as a 24 “split-second pocket chronograph”. By 1975, the company had acquired 4,300 watchmaking awards to its renowned name, inclusive of 18 international gold medals and numerous technological patents.

Ulysse Nardin watches, for the delight of luxury addicts

Ulysse Nardin’s classic watches are believed to be attractive due to their blend of artisanal technology with advanced technology, this has been distinctly manifested by the “Marine” or “Diver” watch models depicting high performance and unique design. For a more modern look, the “Executive” watches are an ideal choice. The “Jade” collection with its internal movement and alluring colors is particularly targeted at women. However, the house owes its fame to the “Freak” collection; the first to be launched with a silicon escapement.

If you are in quest of a pre-owned Ulysse Nardin watch, the Miller House is the ideal place for the best purchase of pre-owned signed jewelry pieces.
