G Braque brooch: find yours at Miller

Georges Braque is one of the most influential artists of the early 20th century. Born in Levallois-Perret, France, he was a leading figure of the cubism art movement along with Pablo Picasso. His works focus on harnessing everyday objects to express abstract ideas and explore the form and content of subject matter. One of his lesser-known works from painting afficionados are his iconic brooches. Those are literally small wearable sculptures that he created during the 1930s. These miniature sculptural works demonstrate Braque's commitment to bridging art and craftsmanship, expressionism and classicism.

Vintage G Braque brooches: incredible pre-owned pieces you might find at Miller

The luxury brooches crafted by Braque incorporated a variety of materials such as sterling silver, gold plating, wood, semi-precious stones, horn and plastic. The shapes were geometric, although they often included organic patterns and features like vines or flowers. The patterning was inspired by nature but it took on an abstracted quality upon completion. In addition to the geometric patterning, some pieces also featured intricate engraving that opulently framed the subjects in a web of braids and circles.

A luxury Braque brooch is like a wearable piece of art

Braque endeavored to create not only beautiful objects but meaningful ones as well, such as brooches. He wanted each piece to embody a story or idea; something beyond just surface decoration or trendiness. He achieved this through his attention to detail as evidenced from numerous sketches preserved from his time at Vésinet-sur-Seine where he lived for a number of years with his wife Juliette Maublanc Lamy. She had herself a remarkable career developing textiles for fashion houses during this period.

Over the span of five decades, Georges Braque successfully pushed material craftsmanship into new realms where possibility transcended formality giving rise to unique silhouettes which sought consciousness through subtlety rather than forcefulness. Thereby elevating thought and nourishing our boisterous age while creating spaces, both timelessly familiar, yet impossibly modern, befitting such remarkable workmanship as seen in these beloved luxury brooches. G Braque vintage brooches riddles still remains unsolved in part thanks to their enigma like texture throughout!
